Anytime Albany and Vermont play each other in men's basketball, it's always a big game. Wednesday's night match up at Patrick gym was no exception...
I was sent to photograph the game for the Burlington Free Press. Vermont was looking to set themselves up for a run at first place in the America East and Albany was looking to extend their conference win streak to 8-0. Patrick Gym was loud and packed full of Vermont fans.
Points were hard to come by in the first half of the game but Albany managed to go into the locker room at the half leading Vermont 25-17. Once the second half started, it seemed like Albany was always up by 6-7 points. In the final minutes, Vermont clawed their way back to tie the game at 44-44 on a Dre Willis dunk. With 11 seconds left Albany had the ball, looking for the go ahead basket. With 1.5 seconds left on the clock Albany's Evan Singletary leaped over Vermont's Trae Bell-Haynes to drain a three pointer (photo above) to give the Great Danes a 47-44 lead. Vermont's Kurt Steidle lobbed up a shot from outside half court in a failed attempt to send the game into overtime. It was a tough loss for Vermont and put Albany in the drivers seat in the America East.
