Last time out, the Catamounts were victim to UMass Amherst's Michael Marcou, who scored late in overtime to beat Vermont 3-2 in the first game of the Frozen Fenway doubleheader at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
On Friday night at "The Gut," Vermont hosted the other UMass hockey team.
The UMass Lowell River Hawks came out strong in the first two periods and jumped to a 2-0 lead going into the Third. Vermont, struggling all year, looked flat and were out skated by Lowell in the first two, but came out swinging in the third, out shooting the Hawks 16-5 and scoring two goals in the span of 23 seconds. Finally, in overtime, Vermont's Brett Bruenteau deflected a shot from Anthony DeCrenzo, to upset the 10th ranked Hawks Lowell 3-2.
